The Racing Program in May (RPM) is a Preseason Tune-up:
If you like to win but don't sail 12 months of the year, it's important to remember the lessons learned last season. That's not easy. Instead of spending those first few regattas getting up to speed, you can now race the first weekend series at or above the skill level you ended with last year.
J World's annual RPM lets you do this. This proven three-day weekend of intensive on the water racing and seminars gets you back in the fast lane, then accelerates your learning curve helped with the knowledge of world-class talent brought together for your benefit.
Boats used for training:
Learn more in one-designs. The J/24 is a fast and responsive boat that is fun to sail and is equipped with the latest rig and sail-trim adjustments.
RPM graduates include PHRF racers, IMS racers, MORC racers, both large and small one design racers, and have come from the ranks of C&C, Beneteau, Catalina, Melges, S2, Capri, San Juan, Express Tripp, Farr, and J Boats. In short, what you learn is transferable to any boat you sail.
You see things when competing against equal boats you might never see when racing against different designs. Your boat speed, teamwork, tactics, helming and boat handling improvements will be evident. And, you'll learn more here than you might in a season at home- our surveys of graduates's race results prove the point. This is an intensive three-day three day program, with 18 of those hours on the water.
Who should attend?
If you attend RPM as a full crew we will waive the experience requirements and coach your group at whatever level will push you up the learning curve the fastest.
Otherwise, this is a program for advanced racers. It is for the active club racer with good boat handling skills, a knowledge of the racing rules and who is comfortable on the starting line and at crowded mark roundings.
RPM is designed to address the problems you face, whether boat handling, tactics or strategy. Where possible we will try to recreate situations you have found yourself in and explore the solutions. We also will concentrate on helping you recognize the elements that gave you that advantage or disadvantage.
How is RPM different from J World's regular racing courses?
In addition to the coaching staff differences, the pace is different. J World's regular racing courses are five days long. When we compress five days into three, the pace becomes relentless. It is total immersion. You will sail and then sleep. Also, for crews training together we try to customize RPM to address the situations you are most concerned with.
The Coaching Staff
Our coaching staff will also include other current and former J World coaches who have competed and won at the highest levels of sailing including World Championships and the America's Cup. You will sail with a different coach each day to insure you see all the latest techniques.
